|
POTSDAM, 16 Oct (SW) - Turbine Potsdam today showed a great performance as they defeated Valur Reykjavik 11-1 in the second leg of UEFA Women's Cup Quarter Final. On aggregate the German UEFA titledefenders won 19-2. Turbine will now face Sparta Praha from the Czech Republic or Djurgården from Sweden.
Turbine started very powerful. There were only 130 seconds played when Conny Pohlers shot the first goal. In the 9th minute Britta Carlson passed to Petra Wimbersky, who could score the 2-0. After two more chances by the Team from Potsdam, Valur suddenly scored - Margret Lara Vidarsdottir, who was the only Forward, scored from twenty metres (14'). Even though the 2-1 was scored the match didn't get more exciting. Pohlers scored the 3-1 in the 21st minute and two minutes later Navina Omilade scored the fourth goal for Turbine with a strong shot. After that Valur-striker Vidarsdottir had to go out because of an injury. Then more and more Turbine chances followed, the 5-1 by Anja Mittag was the result of a perfect strike into the left corner from long distance. Just before the break Valur-playerLaufey Johannsdottir headed into her own goal, eventhough the situation was not dangerous. The level of play of Valur was very bad. The team was strikingly passive and the players did not go in to tackling.
The second half saw the same patrons, eventhough Potsdam did not play as powerfull as the first half. Four minutes were played, when Cristiane scored the 7-1 after a pass of Petra Wimbersky. Mittag and Wimbersky raised the result to 9-1 within a minute. Isabel Kerschowski scored the 10th goal in the 66th minute. Only one minute later Conny Pohlers scored the 11-1, which was the final result. Turbine did not do more than necessary, Valur could not do more. During 90 minutes Valur had only one change. Turbine goalkeeper didn't save one ball. The score could have been higher.
