Chiellini: ‘Give me my chance or I’ll leave’

TURIN, Oct 8 (SW) – Juventus youngster Giorgio Chiellini has publicly expressed his frustration at failing to see a minute of first team action so far this term.
"I really can't stand for the fact we've played eight games between Serie A and the Champions League, yet I haven't played a single minute of football with a Juve jersey," said an angry Chiellini. It is quite a change in fortunes for the left-back who performed so impressively for Fiorentina last season. A solid campaign which saw him make 37 Serie A appearances for La Viola also helped him to win 5 Azzurri caps. Chiellini returned to Turin after Juventus purchased the other half of his registration from Fiorentina in the summer. Chiellini’s absence from the Juventus XI has meant a return to the Azzurri Under-21 side. "I knew I'd have to wait for my turn and that I am still very young, but I have a desire to play that may take me elsewhere. I can only thank Claudio Gentile and the Under-21 side for giving me the chance to prove my worth.” The youngster also voiced his criticism of boss Fabio Capello. “If the situation doesn't change, then I'll ask to be sold. "Fabio Capello doesn't talk to me, but that's just the way he is. "I can only assume the fault is mine if I haven't convinced him of my potential up until this point. Of course Gianluca Zambrotta is the first choice for that role, but I thought that with the squad rotation I might get my chance eventually." Juventus are believed to have offered Chiellini, along with Enzo Maresca and a small cash component, to Roma in the summer as part of a deal to take Antonio Cassano to Turin. A subsequent deal could now be reached for the unhappy defender in January. "I would love to join Roma,” admitted the youngster. “I do have a few regrets that I didn't go to the Giallorossi in the first place, seeing how things are going at Juve, but it wasn't my choice." |
