UEFA Cup: Montpellier faces FFC Frankfurt after 1-3 win

COPENHAGEN, 16 Oct (SW) - Montpellier have won their second leg of the UEFA Women's Cup quarter final in Copenhagen against Brøndby IF. With the end result of 1-3 Montpellier reaches the semifinals on aggregate (6-1). Opponents in this semifinal will be FFC Frankfurt, the German champions.

Brøndby IF missed Julie Rydahl Bukh caused by an injury. In the beginning Montpellier took control of the game. Virginie Faisandier hit the crossbar in the opening minutes. It was just like the first leg game French international Hoda Lattaf that opened the score, a long range shot was beautifully lifted over the Brøndby IF goalkeeper Anne Olsen, 0-1. Before halftime Mette Konge and Catherine Paaske Sørensen came close to the equalizer.

The second half started with a change for again Catherine Paaske Sørensen and a counterattack of Hoda Lattaf. In the 61th minute the equalizer was finally there, Gitte Andersen scored because her deflected free kick went passed Montpellier-goalkeeper Celine Deville. Eight minutes later Montpellier were in front again, Elodie Thomis ran through the Brøndby IF defense. Five minutes later Faisandier secured the win by heading in a free kick, 1-3. In the end Cecillie Pedersen (Brøndby IF) hit the crossbar.
