LIVERPOOL, 6 Oct (SW) - Everton Ladies beat Doncaster Belles last night to keep a tight grip on the top spot in the Premier League National Division. The Doncaster Belles were overrun by 3-1.
The Blues opened the scoring through Chantelle Parry in the first five minutes of play, when her 20-metres shot beat Doncaster keeper Catherine Beaver. Doncaster equalised straight sway with Pauline Hamill finding herself free on the edge of the box to score. Everton then took the lead again after Tammy Byrne lobbed the keeper from the tightest of angles 55 seconds later. Then England national defender Rachel Unitt capped off the victory with a wonderful left footed free kick, which gave the Blues a comfortable two-goal adventage.
The second half didn't see any goals, even though Doncaster pressed the Everton team back into their own half. The win for Everton keeps their unbeaten record in tact and keeps them on top of the league. ' It wasn't the best performance but at the end of the day it is three points, that's all that matters,' said Everton manager Mo Marley.
