Totti: I’m at 60 percent

GENEVA, June 1 (SW) - Following yesterday evening’s 1-1 draw with Switzerland in Geneva, Italy midfielder Francesco Totti says he still has a long way to go before achieving top form.
Totti broke his left leg and suffered ligament damaged in his left ankle during a Serie A match on February 9. The AS Roma talisman managed to return for the final two matches of the season, but only played bit parts in both. "I'm at 60 percent. I'm not at my best," Totti said after the match, his 50th full international appearance. The match was also the first since the injury in which he played all 90 minutes, which ran counter to what Italy coach Marcello Lippi and he had agreed beforehand. "But then Lippi asked if I felt like playing on and my legs were OK, so I said yes. It went well," Totti said. "It was important for me to get over the fear of challenges. I actually sought them out tonight, and I even won two of them." He added: "I need to play as much as possible. Unfortunately, there is only one more game remaining. I would put myself on the field. Sure I'm tired, but physically I'm OK. The more I play the better." Italy play their last pre-World Cup friendly against Ukraine on Friday in Lausanne before opening tournament competition on June 12 against Ghana. The Italians also face the USA and the Czech Republic in Group E action. |
