ROME, June 6 (SW) - The Italian Football Federation has revealed that Alessandro Nesta and Gianluca Zambrotta will face scans on separate injuries today.
Nesta had sustained an adductor muscle injury sometime ago and this is thought to have been aggravated during the Italians 0-0 draw with Ukraine. However Zambrotta seems to be still suffering from a left thigh strain that he injured in training and this appears the more serious of the two concerns.
30 year old Zambrotta is currently running the risk that he may miss Italy’s Group E opening game against Ghana on June 12, and Parma defender Daniele Bonera is now on standby to replace the Juventus player.
Meanwhile coach, Marcello Lippi remains confident Francesco Totti will continue his comeback from injury and play a part in this summers tournament, as he stated, "He is improving. He is following a different work programme.
The Azzuri will arrive at their World Cup training base at Duisberg on Wednesday.
