LEIPZIG, Jun 14 (SW) - Spain jumped on Ukraine early and never let up, beating the 10-man debutants 4-0 in their opening Group H match at the Zentralstadion in Leipzig, backed by a David Villa double.

Ukraine had the first real chance of the game when a free kick swung in from the left by Ruslan Rotan was met by the head of Vladimir Yezersky, but the defender's effort was wide after five minutes.

Three minutes later, Luis García was played into the area well, but his shot toward the near post missed the target with two Ukrainian defenders near.

In the 13th minute, a beautiful curling shot by Marcos Senna forced a nice save out of Olexander Shovkovsky, but the resulting corner would see Spain go in front.

1-0 Xabi Alonso 13th minute
The inswinging corner toward the near post found the head of Liverpool playmaker Xabi Alonso, and the ball deflected past Shovkovsky into the net to give Spain an early lead and give Alonso his first goal for Spain.

2-0 David Villa 16th minute
Andriy Rusol was booked for a foul in a central position 25 yards from goal, and after Mariano Pernía ran by the ball, David Villa hit a perfect right-footed shot over the wall and past a helpless Shovkovsky.

The pace of the game then slowed as Ukraine got their feet underneath them on the World Cup stage, but Spain still had a considerable advantage in terms of possession.

In the 33rd minute, Ukraine finally managed to get Iker Casillas involved when Andriy Gusin fired in on goal from the left channel, but his effort lacked power and the Real Madrid goalkeeper easily gathered.

Villa raced into the area in the 44th minute in a bid for a second goal, but under pressure from a defender, the Valencia striker hit a tame shot that was deflected to Shovkovsky.

Two minutes into the second half, Spain won the first penalty of the World Cup after the referee determined that Vladislav Vashchuk fouled Torres in the area, earning the Ukrainian defender a straight red card.

3-0 David Villa 48th minute
Then Villa, the scorer of the second goal stepped up to the spot and beat Shovkovsky, who guessed right on the direction, but couldn't find a way to stop it.

Three minutes after that, Villa will feel he should have had the tournament's first hat-trick when the ball played into the area by Senna fell to him, but his shot was too weak and Shovkovsky saved.

On the hour mark, 10-man Ukraine just missed getting a goal back as striker Andriy Voronin hit a nice shot with the outside of his boot from 20 yards that went narrowly wide of Casillas' far post.

Substitute striker Raúl nearly added to his all-time scoring record in Spain in the 68th minute when he headed down a cross from the left, but his shot was right into the arms of Shovkovsky.

Serhiy Rebrov should have pulled one back in the 73rd minute when a perfect centering pass from Andriy Vorobey found him in the center of the area, but his first-time shot was well over the bar.

4-0 Fernando Torres 81st minute
Some brilliant play by Carles Puyol led to Spain's fourth when he played a ball for Raúl that he laid off for Torres, and El Niño fired hard past Shovkovsky for Spain's first goal from open play.

Substitute midfielder David Albelda made a bid for five when he took a crack at goal from 20 yards, but Shovkovsky made the save down to his left.
