DORTMUND, Jun 14 (SW) - Welcome to SoccerWay.com's live coverage of the World Cup Group A match between Germany and Poland.
FULL-TIME Wow. What a game in Dortmund. It looked like Poland would hold on for a draw with 10 men after Klose and Ballack struck the bar, but Neuville struck late with some inspiration from Odonkor to give the Germans the win. Poland are not out of the tournament just yet, but if Ecuador get a point against Costa Rica tomorrow, they will be. 90th minute + 1 - GOAL GERMANY! (1-0) Goal: 10 - Neuville Oliver Neuville does it again! Odonkor's ball in from the right finds a sliding Neuville at the near post and he slots it in. This is the man who scored a late winner against Paraguay in 2002, and it looks like he's done it again. 90th minute + 1 - Poland substitution On: 23 - Brozek Off: 21 - Jelen Straight swap late on. 90th minute HOLLLY COW! It's a double crossbar hit by Germany! Klose's looping header beats Boruc and comes off the bar, but Ballack's rebound also hits the bar! Odonkor scores, but the flag is up for offside. What a series of events. 89th minute - Poland booking Booked: 1 - Boruc The keeper is booked for time-wasting, but it may not be a bad move on his part at this point. 88th minute Germany just barely miss again as substitute Borowski finds space in the center, but shoots just wide of the goal with Boruc at full stride. 88th minute Germany haven't played a goalless draw at a World Cup since the 1986 quarter-final against Mexico. If Poland hold on for the last few minutes, they can end that streak. 83rd minute - Poland substitution On: 17 - Dudka Off: 14 - Zewlakow A defender-for-defender swap as Dariusz Dudka replaces Michal Zewlakow who played incredibly well all night. 80th minute Lahm wants his second goal of the tournament, but his shot is stopped well by Boruc. But, Boruc makes an even better save moments later with Neuville shooting powerfully from just 10 yards away. 77th minute - Poland substitution On: 18 - Lewandowski Off: 8 - Krzynowek Defender Mariusz Lewandowski comes on as a defensive reinforcement after the dismissal of Sobolewski. 77th minute - Germany substitution On: 19 - Borowski Off: 7 - Schweinsteiger Tim Borowski, who started on Friday, comes on to replace the hard-working Schweinsteiger. 76th minute The ensuing free kick floats into the far post where Klose is making a diagonal run, but it's just a bit late and the ball is out for a goal kick. 75th minute - Poland RED CARD Sent off: 7 - Sobolewski The referee, keeping consistent with his earlier calls, books Sobolewski a second time as he obstructs the run of Klose. Poland are down to 10 men for the rest of the game 71st minute - Germany substitution On: 10 - Neuville Off: 20 - Podolski The experienced Oliver Neuville comes on as Germany go in search of a goal. 70th minute - Germany booking Booked: 21 - Metzelder Christoph Metzelder is beaten by Smolarek and again Germany must foul to prevent a charge, earning another booking. 68th minute - Germany booking Booked: 22 - Odonkor Jelen again is off to the races, and Odonkor grabs his shirt to pull him back and earns a deserved caution. 66th minute After Odonkor wins a corner, Schweinsteiger's in-swinger is headed just high by Per Mertesacker. 65th minute After a free kick deflects off the wall, Klose takes it on his right foot and shoots hard, but Boruc makes a very nice save to preserve the 0-0 score. 64th minute - Germany substitution On: 22 - Odonkor Off: 3 - Friedrich It's an attacking move for Germany as the speedy David Odonkor replaces right-back Arne Friedrich. 63rd minute Klose is played through on goal by Schneider, but the Werder Bremen striker barely makes contact and the ball rolls to Boruc. 58th minute - Germany booking Booked: 13 - Ballack Jelen causes trouble again for the Germans as he runs down the left, but Ballack hauls him down to impede his progress and is cautioned. 57th minute Poland finally get a crack at Lehmann in the second half as Jelen lets fly from 20 yards with the right boot, but the ball flies into the arms of the Arsenal backstop. 51st minute A corner kick provides a great opportunity for Germany to score as Ballack hits a flying header into open space in the area, but no one in a white shirt is able to get on the end of it and Poland clear. HALF-TIME It's half-time and scoreless in Dortmund amid an electric atmosphere and a sea of red and white. Germany have had two great chances to score with Klose and Podolski both coming close, but Poland are certainly stronger than against Ecuador with Jelen and Smolarek looking dangerous at times. 45th minute + 1 Lahm again with another cross from the left finds Podolski, but the young striker has to shoot with his unfavored foot and the ball goes just wide of the far post. 41st minute Good buildup by the Germans on the right flank and the ball finds Podolski in the area, but he lays it to the top for Schweinsteiger who shoots into the stands. 38th minute Poland captain Jacek Bak shows his athleticism as he goes flying over the top of Klose with a full somersault, although he did foul him at the same time. 36th minute Wow, what a great effort by Lukas Podolski. He takes a pass in the area from Lahm and makes an incredibly quick turn and shot, but it's right at Boruc. Meanwhile, Torsten Frings is off the pitch with blood on his shirt. 28th minute - Poland booking Booked: 7 - Sobolewski A good move by Ballack forces Radoslaw Sobolewski to take him down, earning him a booking the process. 27th minute Jelen was Poland's best player after coming on against Ecuador and he's been their best so far in this one. The winger, on the left side this time, takes a right-footed shot, but it flies right at Lehmann. 24th minute A good spell of pressure by Poland earns them successive corner kicks, but eventually Lehmann catches a Zurawski cross and clears the danger. 21st minute Oh my, it should be a Germany lead. A cheeky cross from the left by Philipp Lahm is run onto by Klose, but his header goes wide with Boruc out to challenge. 17th minute As expected, it's an incredibly physical encounter with a lot of shoving, but Cantalejo is letting the players play out there. 10th minute Michael Ballack plays in a wonderful ball into the area and finds the fine run of Miroslav Klose who shoots quickly, but Artur Boruc gets a hand out and makes the save. 9th minute Maciej Zurawski controls at the top of the area and doesn't hesitate to shoot on goal, but it's right into the arms of Jens Lehmann. 3rd minute - Poland booking Booked: 8 - Krzynowek Jacek Krzynowek earns a quick caution after coming in hard and late on Bernd Schneider at the center line. Kickoff The Poles take the kickoff and the match is underway! Pre-Game It will be a tense match between neighbors in Dortmund, where Germany are unbeaten in 13 games (12 victories). Jürgen Klinsmann makes just one change to the side that beat Costa Rica 4-2 in the opener, as playmaker and captain Michael Ballack returns to the line-up, with Tim Borowski back on the bench. Poland looked dismal in a 2-0 loss to Ecuador on Friday and Pawel Janas makes two changes. Playmaker Miroslaw Szymkowiak is left on the bench with the start going to Ireneusz Jelen, who looked great as a sub. Bartosz Bosacki is also in the starting XI in place of Mariusz Jop. Since FIFA began to sanction full international matches, Poland have never beaten their western neighbors.
