HJORRING, Sep 23 (SW) - Fortuna Hjorring have won the Danish women's clash against national champions Brondby IF with 1-0. An early goal by Johanna Rasmussen was already the decider. The win take Fortuna to the top of the table.

The match in Hjørring Stadium was played for a decent crowd of 321. The spectators saw a high quality match in which Fortuna dominated the first half. After five minutes Fortuna made the only goal of the game. Johanna Rasmussen headed for the goal from the left side of the field, but it was national team keeper Tine Cederkvist that saved the ball. In the rebound it was again Rasmussen who put the ball into the net.

After the 1-0 there was a big chance for Brondby IF when Cathrine Paaske Sørensen kicked the ball over the goal from ten metres. Just before half time the game was delayed for 25 minutes, when Malene Olsen (Brondby IF) broke her leg and an ambulance was awaited. When the game restarted Fortuna got a change when Icelandic international Holmfridur Magnusdottir put the ball just wide from very close, standing absolutely free.

In the second half Brondby IF got hold of the game and were the stronger team in possession. But there were no big changes, the closest came an Anne Dot Eggers free kick. The strong defence of Fortuna Hjorring kept there goal clean for the eleventh game in a row. Fortuna sometimes came out via counter attacks, but no more goals were scored. The game ended in a 1-0 win, which means that Fortuna is now heading Brondby IF on the table with one point.

Team Manager Gert Andersen (Brondby IF) stated to Soccerway that the win of Fortuna was deserved. “We are disappointed, but it was a fair game, Fortuna played very organised. I think our time looked a bit tired after playing the UEFA Women’s Cup in Russia six days ago”.
