Giorgio, my infallible prediction was wrong again! Better luck next time.
Ajax, I think we're going to make a fortune by betting the opposite of my predictions.
When do we start? I can't wait!

Italy fail to win even with a man up and leading 1-0.................goes to show things are not well........

i knew Belgium will be a tough nut to crack after i saw them play Brazil

Belgium has very good movement and very compact .........they might just win this thing though Argentina are hot favourites

Italy somehow looked a little loose

Belgium, man down, coming back and later getting a goal shortly after Italy tied it 2-2. Italian sent off late in the game. I'm not sure if the story was run here but when Belgium defeated China, the host team received red cards for very foul play (kick in the groin for one). Nigeria defeating Japan, USA and Ivory Coast is an excellent team but Belgium can't be discounted. I think I'd pick Nigeria to go all the way but will be glad to see the Red Devils win.

Crusader, I should hide under a rock too but I've learned to take defeats in stride! Italy, shame on you! You should go crawling under a rock and hide? Belgium was a man short and down one goal! What more do you want? I will never cheer for my native country again. That's a promise! (I've been know not to keep promises)

This is unthinkable. Italy vs. Belgium, with Belgium down a man AND a goal... and Belgium wins? This is not possible.

This was a bit of a classic. Belgium played better and very well. Still, the first Belgium goal wasn't very clear scored,

definitely not Italy's year. Although the ref made some very dubious calls in Belgium's favour Italy's future seemed uninspired and lacklustre. I expected much more from Giovinco, Rossi and compagnia bella.

If you look at the bigger picture, Italy has been having a good Olympics. I shouldn't have, but I watched boxing all night long and one of their boxers, Picardi I think. I wish they'd hold the Euro and Olympics in different years, it comes down to a lot of time watching tv which most of us shouldn't.

http://sport.kataweb.it/multimedia/home/2725063 I think it is inconclusive whether it was in or out from film.

Fred,
I can only say that I'm very disappointed. I was hoping that we'd go all the way, but it just wasn't meant to be.

As Ajax says, this is jus not Italy's year. First Euro 2008 and now the Olympics !! And we do have veryu good players, mut just learn to approach some matches with greater determination. In other words, there are no easy matches !!!!!

Giorgio August 17, 2008 07:57

Second part of my message:

"And we do have very good players, they must just learn................

Tontodonati August 17, 2008 10:42

Yes, but Italy could have included two or three more notable players in the team. Just look at Brazil and Argentina. Frankly I did't know any of the players in our team!

Giorgio August 17, 2008 14:56

Fred,
This is the Under-21 team. There was only one over-age player in the squad, Rocchi, but he was sent home because of injury.
