Quick Report: United States 1-0 Brazil

Jonathan Roorda - 21 August 2008 17:39

American players celebrating

BEIJING (SW) - The United States have won their third Golden Medal at the Olympic Women's football tournament, beating Brazil after extra time in the final.

Neither side managed to break the deadlock in regular time and an additional half hour was needed to decide the clash.

Six minutes into extra time, it was 26-year-old Carli Lloyd to put the ball past Brazil goalkeeper Barbara for 1-0.

The Brazilians, who after the men's elimination were their nation's only hope for its first Olympic Gold ever, lacked the flexibility to fight their way back into the game.

The US had already won the 1996 and 2004 tournaments. Only Norway have been able to break through that dominance in 2000.

intense game. good job to withstand that intense Brasilian attack. USA played liek Germany with that defensive mind set and quick counter attacking. it paid off and it is too bad Lloyd hit the post on that other attempt. Could have made it 2-0. Marta and Christine should have finished a few times, i feel bad that they didnt. but hey, sometimes footy is like that. good job to both teams.

Great game by both teams, but the USA proved today why they are the world's #1 team in women's soccer.

This is a happy day for all lovers of the Beautiful Game !!!!!

A great result for the US girls. And, who knows, this gold medal might help men's soccer become more popular in the US.

And this result also goes to show that Brazil is no longer the power in world soccer that it used to be. Other nations have caught up and other players have the same skills as the Brazilians, with superior tactics.

WorstTalent,

Actually there's always been some really cute chicks in the US squad. And some of the German girls are not too bad either.

Giorgio

who are the other cuties in the US squad ?

i find the keeper, Hope Solo (what a name! maybe she's related to Han Solo) ridiculous..............she's wearing make-up ! but she's a better keeper than i thought.

best midfielder - Marta (my student)

best rightback - Mitts (cutest too)

best keeper - Angerer (female Kahn)

best striker - Prinz (even though scored only 1 goal)

the Japs get my vote for having the best movement........

BTS - there are so many cute girls on the US team. Hope Solo, Heather Mitts, Leslie Osbourne to name a few.

haha idk if you guys have come across this yet, but there are a ton of stories out about how all the athletes at the Olympics are all just hooking up with each other non stop. And apparently the final day is pretty much a massive orgy. i thought this was hilarious....and fucking awesome. if i was there, i'd move right along to Heather Mitts and Hope Solo...among others! The reasoning the article gave was that since they are athletes and in very good shape, they have very high amounts of testosterone and estrogen. haha so funny!
