One goal in the first half and two in the second led Russia to a comfortable 3-0 victory in Sunday's crucial Women's World Cup qualifier.

The Russians were favorites to win this match all along, and lived up to expectations with an opening goal from Elena Morosova in the 13th minute. The 22-year-old midfielder aimed to send in a pass from the end line, but the ball somehow flew into the goal behind keeper Byrne.

Valentina Savchenkova added a second seven minutes after the break, following a successful combination with Olga Petrova, and the Irish visitors knew that a defeat would be extremely difficult to avoid at this point.

The third and final goal came from Olga Petrova in the 90th minute. The midfielder collected the ball in midfield and did well to beat keeper Byrne in a one-on-one situation.

Russia were the dominant side throughout the entire game, and their performance looks promising ahead of the remaining qualifiers in this group.

Having beaten Switzerland in their opening qualifier, Russia lead Group 6 comfortably with six points from two games.
