30'
M. Pašalić enters the game and replaces D. Zapata.
Zapata is the player to make way as Atalanta fix their midfield. It's a shame for the Colombian who's given Madrid something to think about during his short time on the pitch. The Croatian central midfielder Pasalic comes on.

Hello! Welcome to our live text commentary of this UEFA Champions League match between Atalanta and Real Madrid at Gewiss Stadium.
This is the first ever meeting between Atalanta and Real Madrid as Atalanta continue to entertain on the European stage. Gian Piero Gasperini's team are the first since Sevilla in the late 2000s to reach the knockout phase in their first two Champions League appearances. Now they face their biggest test yet in the form of continental heavyweights Madrid.
Madrid are making their 24th consecutive appearance in the Champions League knockout phase, the longest run in the competition's history. Zinedine Zidane and his men are starting to find their form now after a patchy start to the season. They know what it takes to win this competition. Can Atalanta repeat the shock Ajax gave them at this stage two seasons ago?
SUBS: Francesco Rossi, Jose Luis Palomino, Sam Lammers, Marco Sportiello, Josip Ilicic, Mattia Caldara, Bosko Sutalo, Mario Pasalic, Ruslan Malinovskiy, Matteo Ruggeri, Aleksey Miranchuk.

The two teams come out onto the pitch for Bergamo's first ever Champions League knockout game as the competition's eternally stirring anthem parps out. Don't you just love Champions League nights?
Madrid will of course be happy with taking a one-goal lead home, but given the circumstances it's hard not to feel that they should have worked harder to kill this tie off. Atalanta didn't muster a shot on target but still have something to play for after refusing to get blown away. That will buoy Gasperini's men greatly.
These two teams meet again in Madrid in three weeks' time then. With Atalanta needing to attack in the second leg, let's hope it's a better game than this one turned out to be. That's all for now. Goodbye!
